Breasts & Blooms Returns for Awareness Month

When we hosted Breasts & Blooms in May, we did not plan on doing it twice in one year. But October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it felt right to open the doors again.

So in October 2026, The Well Projects and The Well MD brought the 3D mobile breast centre back to Greer, South Carolina, for a second day of screening. For some of the women, we covered the cost of the exam, so that money would not be the reason anyone stayed home.

The weather had other plans. Hurricane Isaias brought rain that did not let up all day, and we honestly wondered who would come. They came anyway, one after another, and walked out through the rain to the unit to have their exams done.

That kind of showing up says something. Early detection saves lives, and these women decided that a storm was not a reason to put it off for another year.

Then the same thing happened that happened in May. Nobody rushed home. Women who had arrived as strangers stayed to fellowship, to pray together and to share their own experiences. A screening day became, once again, a room full of women holding one another up.

We are learning that this is what Breasts & Blooms really is. The mammogram matters, and it is the reason we gather. But the hour afterwards, when no one wants to leave, is where another kind of care happens.

Awareness month puts breast cancer on billboards for thirty days. For the women who came, we hope screening stays on the calendar every year.
