What we collect

Most of this site can be read without giving us any information at all. We collect information in three situations.

• The contact form. When you write to us we receive your name, email address, message, and, if you choose to give them, your phone number and a subject line. The form is delivered to our mailbox by an email delivery service and stays there for as long as we need it to reply and keep a record of our conversation.
• Server logs. The company that hosts this site records basic technical details of each visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. These logs exist to keep the site secure and running, and they are kept only briefly.
• Donations. Gifts by card are handled by Stripe, and gifts by Zelle or PayPal by your own bank or PayPal. Card and account numbers never pass through this website and we never store them. We receive your name, email address and the amount given so that we can thank you, issue a tax receipt and keep the records the law requires of a nonprofit.

Cookies and tracking

This site does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and it does not follow you across other websites. Everything on it works without cookies. The donation pages run by Stripe and PayPal are separate sites with their own privacy policies.

How we use your information

• To answer your message and follow up on what you asked.
• To thank donors, send receipts and keep accurate financial records.
• To keep the website secure and to fix problems when something breaks.
• To meet our legal obligations as a nonprofit organisation.

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade your information. We share it only with the service providers who make the site work on our behalf, meaning our hosting company, our email delivery service and the payment processors named above, and only for the purposes described here. We may also share information when the law requires it.

Photos and stories from our missions

The photographs and videos on this site show real people we have had the privilege to serve alongside. We share them with respect and, wherever possible, with the agreement of the people pictured or their guardians. If you appear in a photo or video on this site and would like it removed, email us and we will take it down promptly, no questions asked.

Children

This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them online. Children who appear in our mission photos are there with the agreement of the adults responsible for them.

Your choices

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we will respond within a reasonable time. We will honour your request unless the law requires us to keep a record, for example of a donation. If you live in a region with specific privacy laws, such as the European Union, the United Kingdom or California, you may have additional rights, and we will respect them.

Security and where your data lives

The site is served over an encrypted connection. Access to messages and donor records is limited to the people who need it to do their work. We are based in the United States and our service providers process information there.

Links to other sites

We link to partner organisations, social media and donation platforms. Once you leave this site, their privacy policies apply, not this one.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted here for a period of time so returning visitors can see them.
